History

The idea for the G-Shock was initially conceived in 1981 by Kikuo Ibe, a Casio engineer. The idea came to mind when Kikuo’s pocket watch given by his father accidentally fell off and broke. The initial idea for G-Shock was to have ten years of battery life, a 10-bar resistance, and could survive a fall of 10 meters or what Kikuo would call it “triple 10.”

A team of three called “team tough” was chosen to create a prototype for a shockproof watch. However, they could not achieve the set parameters after nearly producing and testing about 200 prototypes. However, upon visiting a playground, Kikuo discovered that the center of a rubber ball does not suffer the result of shock when bounced on a rough surface. As a result, he implemented this idea into the watch. Afterwhich, the team then developed a watch using Kikuo’s concept. And in 1983, the first G-Shock watch, the DW-5000C, debuted.

The original G-Shock has 10-layer shockproof protection. And it protects the quartz movement, including a urethane rubber bumper, the stainless steel case, the stainless steel caseback, the hardened mineral glass crystal, and lastly, the floating module. The floating module is where the watch’s quartz mechanism freely floats in a urethane foam mount and the buttons and LCD module. The strap also features shockproof design to protect the module during a fall.

Due to the increasing demand for durable watches, Casio launched G-Shock in April 1983. However, sales were slow as the Japanese market preferred dress watches. Therefore, and as a marketing strategy, G-shock released an advertisement wherein the G-Shock DW-5000C was used as a hockey puck to demonstrate durability. However, Casio was accused of false advertising. As a result, a TV news channel conducted a live test on the DW-5000C, copying what was in the advertisement. And the watch did survive the test, and G-Shock gained popularity, increasing demand and sales worldwide.

Today, G-shock is still one of the most popular shockproof watches worldwide, and it is even counterfeited in other countries. So when you sell your G-shock watch, have it checked if it is original or not.

Brief History

Swiss and Japanese businessmen officially established Citizen in 1930. However, the brand was already operating in 1918. Watchmaker Rodolphe Schmid initially registered it in Switzerland for the watches he marketed in Japan. When it was officially established in Japan in 1930, the company used the Shokosha Watch Research Institutes facility and Schmid’s factory as well. Citizens grew quite popular in Japan but failed worldwide.

Citizen started to focus on innovation and started to research how to make waterproof watches. As a result, it released its first fully waterproof watch in 1959, the Parawater. Parawater was a huge success inspiring a collection of Citizen diving watches.

Another of Citizen’s innovations is the quartz movement. With the advent of mechanical watches, Citizen launched a more budget-friendly watch. This watch contains a quartz movement which means it uses a battery for its power rather than the more expensive automatic movement watches.

Citizen also prides itself on accuracy, precision, and quality. It is even seen in its corporate philosophy.  And this is one of the advantages when you sell your Citizen watch in the secondary market.

Swatch is a Swiss watchmaker established in 1983 by Elmar Mock, Ernst Thomke, and Jacques Müller. It is part of the conglomerate The Swatch Group—a manufacturer of watches and jewelry. It was originally established to retake entry-level market shares lost by Swiss watchmakers to Japanese watchmakers in the 1960s and 1970s. And to re-invigorate interest in analog watches amidst the rise in digital watches.

Jacques Irniger, a marketing expert who used to work cor Colgate and Nestlé, was hired to launch Swatch in 1983. Swatch soon proved to be a success, eventually opening around 60 stores worldwide in 1997.

During its launch, Swatch introduced 12 models in its collection. The price ranged from 39.90 to CHF 49.90 but was eventually standardized to CHF 50.00 in the fall of the same year. Swatched also had an aggressive approach in its marketing, and coupled with budget-friendly prices, its sales skyrocketed.

Swatch watches are distinct from other Swiss watches, and Swatch watches have plastic cases, whereas other popular watches are made of stainless steel. The plastic material makes it more cost-efficient and budget-friendly for the average consumer. The plastic case also makes more leeway for creativity, such as more colorful and quirky designs.

If you want to sell a Casio watch, one of the keys is to know its history. Everyone knows that Casio, or Casio Computer Co., Ltd is a Japanese multinational company that manufactures electronic devices. Casio was established in April 1946 as Kashio Seisakujo by Japanese fabrication technology engineer Tadao Kashio. Its first product was the yubiwa pipe, a ring that holds a cigarette.

In 1949, inspired by the electric calculators exhibited at the first Business Show in Ginza, Tokyo, Kashio and his brothers decided to create calculators. The majority of the calculators used during that time were hand-operated using a crank or motor. Toshio, one of Tadao’s brothers, has some knowledge of electronics and used that to create a calculator using an electromagnet called a solenoid. And in 1954, the desk-sized calculator was unveiled. It was also Japan’s first electro-mechanical calculator.

In the 1970s, Casio began making various electronic instruments such as the famous musical instrument, the electronic keyboard. However, Casio’s best product was unveiled in 1974, the Casio wristwatch. The company was one of the first makers of watches that use quartz movements, both used in digital and analog displays.

Instant Popularity

Casio watches instantly became a massive hit. Their digital display watches became the world’s first successful electronic watch. The watches looked like a mini-computer that accurately tells time and date. Casio watches’ designs are incomparable, even the ones that come from earlier times, making it so easy to sell a Casio watch even today.

In 1984, Casio released its world-famous G-Shock watches. The G-Shock range also uses a digital quartz movement and is more durable than its predecessor. The G-Shock range has a more rugged appearance and is shockproof and water-resistant. And because of that, it is a top choice for people who love the great outdoors. Some G-Shock models also come with other functions such as a digital stopwatch, date display, and a second time-zone.

When the 1990s came, Casio released a lighter, stylish, and more colorful version of the G-Shock called Baby-G. Baby-G shares the same functions as its predecessor G-Shock but is just more stylish, and it also became a fashion icon at the time of its release.

Today, Casio remains at the forefront of digital watches and is still one of the top choices for digital watch enthusiasts and adventure enthusiasts.

About Seiko

Seiko’s story began when its 21-year-old founder Kintarou Hattori opened a watch store in 1881 in Tokyo, Japan, called K. Hattori. His shop specializes in fixing and selling watches and clocks.

Hattori was extremely experienced with watches and was a clockmaker’s apprentice since he was 13 years old. He worked with multiple watch shops like Kobayashi Clock Shop, Kameda Clock shop, and Sakata Clock Shop, all of which helped him hone his skills in selling and fixing clocks and watches.

And in 1892, just eleven years after opening his shop, he bought a decommissioned factory in Tokyo and the Seikosha factory. The word Seiko can have multiple meanings in Japanese, and it can be “exquisite,” “minute,” or “success,” while the word “sha” means house. Hattori then began to produce his first clocks.

Seiko’s wall clock business became largely successful in the 1890s. As a result, Hattori wanted to expand his business, and in 1895, he produced his first pocket watch, the Timekeeper. The creation of the pocket watch was crucial to the creation of Japan’s very own wristwatch.

In mid-1912, pocket watches remained popular in Japan as the number of wristwatches imported to Japan was still limited. Hattori, wanting to be “one step ahead,” threw himself into creating Japan’s first wristwatch. And in 1913, the Laurel made its debut as Japan’s first wristwatch. It is clear that Seiko has a rich history, with it being one of the firsts in the watch industry. For this, you can sell your Seiko watch for an impressive price if you have an old piece that’s working perfectly. So, try to know the story behind your item first before doing anything else.

Seiko in the 1920’s

The Seikosha factory burned down after the Great Kanto Earthquake struck in 1923. The company recovered and created a new watch that went on sale in December 1924. It was the first watch that carried the Seiko name.

Four decades later, Seiko created the world’s first watch equipped with a quartz movement, the Astron. When it first debuted, it cost roughly the same as a medium-sized car. Years later, Seiko also made the world’s first chronograph with a quartz movement.

Today, Seiko continues to innovate and produce high-quality watches which are known all over the world. Since they are quite common, it can be hard to sell your Seiko watch to individual buyers. Bring your business to Nevada Coin Mart instead, where you will be given the best deals in all of Las Vegas.

Brief History

Founder Guccio Gucci was not always a fashion designer. He started as a bellhop at the Savoy hotel in London, where he would help with the luggage of the h000otel’s elite clients. Through his experience as a bellhop, he learned about the fashion sense of the rich—their tastes, the quality of their clothes, and travels. He, later on, worked at the Compagnie des Wagons-Lits, a European rail company that specialized in luxury travel. Thus, expanding his know-how with luxury travel. And after World War I, he worked for Franzi, a maker of luxury luggage.

Equipped with his experiences with luxury travel, he eventually opened his shop on 7 Via della Vigna Nuova in Florence, which he called Azienda Individuale Guccio Gucci, where he sold leather luggage. He also opened a small workshop that employed local craftsmen. Later, he diversified his business and sold knitwear, silk goods, purses, and footwear. However, during the Second World War, there was a shortage of materials. Thus, forcing the company to use cotton in making its product. During this time, the iconic “Double-G” monogram was also introduced. Then, during the 70’s, Gucci ventured into watch-making. Thanks to this, you can now sell a Gucci watch for an impressive price.

Gucci in the 1980’s and Now

Gucci instantly became a favorite among wealthy travelers, Hollywood stars, and other consumers since the 1950s. People know the brand for its lavish, sumptuous designs. Guccio Gucci died in 1953, but his three sons, Aldo, Vasco, and Rodolfo Gucci, carried on with the label. They introduced luxury accessories such as eyewear, watches, and jewelry to the brand’s product line in the mid-60s. These, later on, popularized the label even more.

During the 1980s, the Gucci family was fighting over the Gucci name, leading to bad business decisions. As a result, the company was on the brink of bankruptcy. The company eventually sold the majority of its shares to Investcorp—Tiffany & Co’s owner since 1984. Thus, effectively ending the Gucci family’s involvement with the company.

Today, Gucci remains to be one of the most sought-after luxury brands.

Michael Kors Watch Value

Michael Kors watches are more stylish than precise. They may not be of the highest quality in manufacturing, but their design and brand name are their major selling points. The following are some reminders during the valuation process:

  • Secure the original box or sales receipt. Watch dealers can assist you in authenticating your watch and determining its value. There are many counterfeit watches on the market, so you will need to ensure potential purchasers that your watch is genuine.
  • Do a quick search on the internet on the current retail worth of your watch. Keep in mind that you will get a lower price than you would at a store. Because it is “used,” your watch may not be worth as much as the new ones if it is still being sold.
  • Older, vintage watches may be more valuable to collectors. It may be appreciated since you got it, especially if it was a limited-edition watch. So if you have one such as this, make sure that you take care of it to the best of your ability.
  • Assess the state of your watch. If your watch has spent the majority of its existence on your dresser, it is likely to be in excellent shape. However, it would surely benefit from some cleaning and polishing.
